The Power of the Audience: Crowdfunding and Crowdsourcing in Independent Film

UGA MFA Director Marty Lang and local writer/director Aaron Strand discuss the art and discipline of crowdfunding your film.

 

Marty Lang is Director of the MFA in Film, Television and Digital Media at the University of Georgia. He attended the University of Connecticut, graduating with a B.A. in Journalism and covering entertainment for the New York Times. He also holds two M.F.A. degrees - one in Film Production from Florida State University, and one in Screenwriting from California State University, Northridge. In addition to successfully crowdfunding his own films, Lang has written and taught extensively on the subject.

Aaron Strand is an actor from Atlanta, GA known for his roles in NCIS:NOLA (2017), Dynasty (2017) and American Soul (2018). He graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in drama and has performed in Films, Television and Off-Broadway. In addition to performing Aaron also writes, directs and shoots film for his production company, Stranded Entertainment. Strand is currently wrapping up production of his first feature film, "Withdrawal", which was shot in Athens and crowdfunded entirely through Seed&Spark.
